Description
NASA's Stennis Space Center (SSC) requires a DMP FLEX 200 Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) 3D printer manufactured by 3D Systems Inc. This system will enable innovators at SSC to produce complex geometry components in alloys suitable for testing and technology development. The DMP FLEX 200 is an Additive Manufacturing System that allows for the use of standard alloys pre-validated by 3D Systems, as well as the development of proprietary materials. Its unique features include a counter-rotating compaction roller layering mechanism, which allows for high Z-stroke accuracy, thin layer capability, processing of a wider range of powder morphologies and particle sizes, and more aggressive unsupported geometries. This enables the processing of finer non-spherical particles, including ceramics or ceramics blended with metals. The system also features an inert build and supply chamber that protects the process and materials from oxidation, and a closed build chamber for operator safety. This is a sole source requirement, as only 3D Systems Inc. provides this specific printer and its unique capabilities are essential for SSC's rapid prototyping and component manufacturing needs.
