Description
The Breast Cancer Research Program Clinical Research Extension Award supports research that extends data collection, patient follow-up, and analysis from open, ongoing, or completed breast cancer clinical trials or studies. Eligible projects may include deeper molecular analysis of clinical samples, new correlative studies, biomarker validation, continued clinical follow-up, and development of clinically annotated or molecularly characterized experimental platforms. Projects may be hypothesis-testing or hypothesis-generating and must address at least one program-defined breast cancer challenge, provide preliminary data supporting feasibility, and include a data-sharing plan. The research team must include at least two breast cancer consumer advocates. The award permits either a single Principal Investigator or a Partnering Principal Investigator Option with two collaborating PIs. The maximum period of performance is four years, with total costs capped at $7 million for a single-PI application or $8.4 million for the Partnering PI Option. The opportunity uses a two-step application process: a pre-application is required, followed by a full application. New clinical trials, new patient enrollment in ongoing trials, and research involving painful experiments with domestic cats or dogs are outside the program's intent.
