Description
The South Dakota Department of Education seeks vendors to process USDA-donated bulk chicken legs into three fully cooked products for school meals: diced chicken in sweet and spicy sauce, teriyaki-flavored dark meat strips, and breaded dark meat chunks with tangerine sauce. Products must meet specified serving, calorie, sodium, Child Nutrition, USDA inspection, quality-control, metal-detection, packaging, and labeling requirements. Approximately one to two truckloads are anticipated per school year, but quantities are not guaranteed. The awarded processor must store and deliver finished products to a designated cold-storage warehouse in Sioux Falls, with deliveries made as ordered. Proposals must include pricing, a detailed technical response, examples of similar work, recent audited financial statements, and required certifications. Vendors must also provide 15 servings of each proposed item to each of five designated schools for taste testing, at no cost to the State, by the stated sample deadline. The solicitation requires the vendor to be an approved USDA National Processing Agreement commodity processor.
