Description
This SBIR Phase I opportunity seeks innovative development of a secure, adaptable, and interoperable cellular network for flight line operations. The proposed solution should use 5G and Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) architectures to improve real-time communication, data sharing, ground crew coordination, aircraft health monitoring, predictive maintenance, and aircraft-maintenance support using augmented reality applications. Phase I work will include feasibility analysis, assessment of flight line communication requirements, exploration of Open RAN components, initial system design, foundational prototypes, and a preliminary proof of concept. Expected deliverables include a feasibility report, design schematics, and prototype documentation. The network should integrate with existing infrastructure, support spectrum-sharing mechanisms, reduce vendor lock-in, and provide a scalable foundation for later pilot deployment, testing, and transition to operational use.
