Description
The University of Minnesota is soliciting a fixed lump-sum proposal for construction services to convert approximately 1,500 square feet of administrative space in the Mechanical Engineering Building into a 3D metal printer workshop. The work includes demolition, new doors and casework, electrostatic-dissipative flooring, lighting, power, data, fire protection, plumbing, HVAC and ventilation modifications, compressed air and argon connections, hazardous-material signage, and final mechanical and electrical connections to owner-provided equipment, including Aconity MIDI+ and Xact Metal printers, a grinder/polisher, high-speed saw, vacuum, filtration equipment, and related systems. The contractor must coordinate with the University, architect/engineer, facilities staff, equipment vendors, and separate equipment and furniture contractors while maintaining operations in an occupied, high-traffic building. The project has a total construction budget of $1,200,000, requires substantial completion by March 12, 2027, and includes a $1,200,000 base construction budget with an alternate for a one-hour rated wall assembly. Proposals must include the required cover declaration, team qualifications, project approach and work plan, project schedule, project cost, responsible-contractor compliance certificate, and first-tier subcontractor list. The project is subject to prevailing-wage requirements, and performance and payment bonds are required when applicable under Minnesota law.
