Description
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is soliciting proposals for a design-build project to provide a new access point to the Red Line northwest of the Charles River near Alewife Station in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The tunnel will improve delivery of equipment, labor, and materials and provide grade-level access to the below-grade tunnel for hi-rail vehicles and maintenance equipment. The project includes a new vehicular tunnel constructed in a vacant lot and connected to the existing Red Line tunnel at two locations. The work includes excavation, support-of-excavation systems, contaminated soil remediation, dewatering, concrete tunnel construction, environmental permitting and monitoring, landscaping, drainage work, electrical systems, third-rail modifications, signal and communications cable relocation, security devices, lighting, and related transit infrastructure. The electrical scope includes new CCTV cameras, card access, door contacts, an electric bolt lock, tunnel lighting, wireless lighting controls, power distribution, and associated conduits. Addendum No. 7 adds an electrical basis-of-design report, replaces the recorded easement exhibit, and revises concrete mix requirements; Addendum No. 8 clarifies third-rail access, specialty subcontractor identification, formal alternative technical concept responses, drainage, and other technical requirements.
