Description
Larimer County is requesting quotations from qualified grazing operators for a livestock grazing lease at Red Mountain Open Space (RMOS). The initial lease term is five years beginning January 1, 2027, with one optional five-year extension. The approximately 17,000-acre property includes nine main pastures, corrals, sheds, fencing, and livestock water sources. Grazing is intended to conserve native plant communities, protect rare plant and wildlife species, restore vegetation, and reduce fire danger. The 2026 reference plan allowed up to 1,120 AUMs over an eight-month period, but future stocking levels and grazing schedules will depend on forage, water, weather, and range conditions. The lessee will manage livestock; maintain fences, corrals, sheds, water systems, and related improvements; maintain livestock records; control weeds around corrals; pay specified utility costs; comply with vehicle-access restrictions; and coordinate grazing plans with the County. Livestock must be marked, tagged, branded, or documented by a bill of sale or brand certificate. Quotes must propose a grazing fee of at least $26.00 per AUM and include the completed Quote Form and references. The County will evaluate the proposed business and grazing plan, operational capability, livestock and range-management knowledge, care of the premises, proposed fee, and service needs. Addendum 1 states that the quote deadline remains September 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Mountain Time and provides the 2026 grazing plan for reference.
