Description
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission intends to acquire up to 50 days of liveaboard vessel support for multi-day SCUBA-based marine research and monitoring missions in the Florida Keys, Marquesas, and Dry Tortugas regions. Missions may last approximately 5 to 11 consecutive days and may include underwater surveys, deployment and recovery of monitoring equipment, biological sampling, fishing, animal tagging, and other marine research activities. The primary vessel must be at least 80 feet long, USCG-inspected, capable of operating up to 100 miles offshore, and equipped for live-boat dive operations, Nitrox diving with a 28%–36% oxygen compressor, scientific-equipment recovery using a 250-pound-capacity winch, and accommodations for at least 10 scientific personnel. Required support also includes experienced crew, dive-safety and medical equipment, a dive platform for at least four divers, meals and refreshments, satellite internet, power and workspace for scientific equipment, and—when required—the ability to tow and accommodate an approximately 25-foot research vessel. The intended single source is Makai, Inc., based on its National Park Service Commercial Use Authorization and ability to meet the stated operational requirements.
