Description
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) to gather information on potential vendors capable of providing current monthly wireless and wireline telecommunications service plan pricing. The BLS requires detailed data for one year, starting with data from 2025, collected from households regarding their purchases of telecommunications services. This data will be used to analyze, evaluate, and improve the price indexes the BLS produces. The scope of the data includes residential (wireline) services such as landline telephone, internet access, cable and satellite television, and bundled packages, as well as wireless telephone services. Key variables required include month, ZIP code, service/product, provider/carrier, package name, length of service, contract status, features (e.g., data speeds, channel counts, premium channels, DVR fees, wireless plan type, data allowance), and monthly spend. The data should represent a cross-section of U.S. households and be delivered in an electronic format such as CSV, SAS, or TXT. Vendors must also provide the survey questionnaire and response key, and deliver the data securely via SFTP. The BLS intends to purchase this data outright, not lease it.
