Description
The National Weather Service is seeking information from vendors capable of providing continuous, real-time commercial total lightning data covering the contiguous United States, with additional coverage including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the District of Columbia, adjacent land areas, and areas up to 500 km offshore. The data must include cloud-to-ground and cloud-flash events, pulse and flash details, location and timing information, polarity, peak current, multiplicity, sensor count, and in-cloud height. The feed must support secure continuous streaming and one-minute encrypted data products compatible with NOAA operational systems, including AWIPS, N-AWIPS, MRMS, and the NWS Telecommunications Gateway. Vendors must describe their detection network, technical performance, delivery protocols, relevant operational experience, and any risks or recommendations concerning the draft requirements. Responses are limited to five pages and must be submitted as a capability statement in PDF or Microsoft Word format; this is a Sources Sought notice for market research, not a solicitation for proposals or quotations.
