Description
The New York State Unified Court System (UCS), through its Office for Justice Initiatives (OJI), is conducting market research to identify organizations capable of providing certified recovery peer advocate (CRPA) and non-emergency transportation services for court-involved individuals in Wayne County. This initiative is part of a grant from the Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) aimed at connecting individuals at risk of opioid overdose with treatment and support services. CRPA services will involve embedding advocates within the Wayne County Courts to conduct screenings, provide one-on-one support, help individuals navigate the court process, coordinate referrals to treatment and community resources, and address barriers such as transportation and stigma. Qualifications for CRPAs include a high school diploma or equivalency, ASAP-New York Certification Board certification, two years of experience as a peer specialist/advocate/counselor in a behavioral health or criminal justice setting, familiarity with the court system, and knowledge of local community resources. Non-emergency transportation services will be provided to and from treatment services, court appearances, and other essential appointments. Providers must ensure safe, insured, and properly licensed vehicles, qualified drivers, and timely service. They will also be responsible for supervising and training transportation staff and orienting participants on ride schedules and program expectations. Organizations can express interest in providing CRPA services only, transportation services only, or both.
