NASA plans to compete a multiple-award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract covering the design, development, analysis, fabrication, assembly, verification, validation, testing, evaluation, certification, delivery, and sustaining maintenance and operations of space nuclear systems, subsystems, hardware, materials, and software. The contract is intended to support task orders for design, development, test, and evaluation of the Lunar Reactor-1 system. NASA also plans to compete the first task order alongside the contract. The Lunar Reactor-1 Phase 1 task order is expected to include development of a preliminary-design-review-level system design, an electrically heated integrated-system test using representative subsystems, and component-level radiation exposure testing. This is a presolicitation synopsis; NASA states that it intends to issue the final RFP around November 20, 2026.
