Description
The Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency (SAFCA) seeks a qualified grazer to provide cattle, labor, equipment, and related services for an approximately 532-acre grazing operation. The work includes managing livestock across designated grazing units, adjusting stocking and grazing practices to available forage and site conditions, providing water and necessary livestock-handling infrastructure, maintaining fences and gates, monitoring livestock, and reporting grazing use and exceptional events. Grazing must support SAFCA’s objectives for wildlife habitat and native vegetation, invasive-plant control, hazardous-fuel management, and general stewardship, while complying with conservation easements and range-management requirements. Applicants must demonstrate at least two years of conservation-oriented cattle-grazing experience, the ability to respond to urgent cattle-related matters within 12 hours, adequate livestock and business infrastructure, and the ability to meet the insurance requirements. Proposals must include a transmittal letter, a qualifications and capacity statement of no more than four pages, conflict-of-interest disclosures or a no-conflict statement, references, and an insurance-coverage summary. The lease is scheduled to run from March 1, 2027, through February 28, 2030, with up to two one-year extensions; the nominal rent is $2,000 per year.
