Description
The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is soliciting Statements of Qualifications (SOQs) from contractors for the US 101 Express Lanes Phase 5 project. The project involves converting existing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes to express lanes (also known as High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes) and constructing a new second express lane to create a dual express lanes system along US 101 from near the US 101/SR 237 interchange in Sunnyvale to near East Taylor Street Overcrossing in San Jose. The work includes widening the freeway to add the new express lane and auxiliary lanes, constructing retaining walls, reconstructing median concrete barriers, constructing California Highway Patrol (CHP) enforcement areas, constructing drainage systems, installing electrical conduits, conductors, pull boxes, cabinets, and fiber optic conduits to support tolling equipment, installing freeway lighting, installing overhead signs and sign structures, and installing express lane toll rate signs, toll gantries, and other tolling infrastructure. The estimated cost of construction is between $150,000,000 and $165,000,000. The procurement process requires pre-qualification of bidders, and only pre-qualified firms will be invited to submit sealed bids. The prime contractor must possess a California-issued Class A (General Engineering Contractor), C-8, C-10, and HAZ (Hazardous Substance Removal Certification) license, either by itself or in conjunction with licensed subcontractors.
