Description
This invitation for bids covers construction of the US 101 Express Lanes Phase 5 project in Santa Clara County. The work will convert existing HOV lanes to HOT lanes and add a second express lane in each direction along approximately 11 miles of US 101, from the US 101/SR 237 interchange in Sunnyvale to the Taylor Road/East Taylor Street area in San Jose. The scope includes roadway widening and pavement work; drainage improvements; concrete barriers, guardrails, retaining walls, and CHP enforcement areas; express-lane signs, toll-rate signs, toll readers, communication and electrical services, lighting, video enforcement, CCTV, controller and electrical cabinets, pull boxes, and related electronic toll-system infrastructure. The project also includes traffic-management-system work, traffic monitoring, ramp-metering and changeable-message-sign modifications, utility and sewer work, bridge and railroad coordination, and construction-related traffic control. Construction is estimated to begin November 2, 2026, and be completed June 30, 2031; the project documents identify an estimated construction cost of $170.6 million within the state highway right-of-way.
