Description
The Federal Transit Administration's Broad Agency Announcement solicits applied research projects responding to specific research topics addressing public transportation safety, accessibility, reliability, efficiency, and mobility. Eligible projects must generally fall within technology readiness levels 3 through 6, with preference for proof-of-concept testing at Level 3. Research areas include community connectivity, accessibility technologies for automated vehicles, urban rail transit innovations, ferry safety and technology, and transit safety data analytics and management. The two-step process begins with a concept paper, followed by a detailed proposal only if invited by the FTA. Concept papers must be no more than five pages, excluding the one-page Quad Chart, and must include a cover page, technical approach, qualifications, schedule and cost estimates, and Quad Chart. Invited proposals include a Technical Proposal, Cost and Pricing Proposal, Supplemental Information, and Project Quad Chart. Individual awards are anticipated to commonly range from $150,000 to $500,000, subject to funding availability; cost sharing and transit-operator partnerships are preferred, and the solicitation is unrestricted except for Federal Government-owned businesses.
