The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff recommends issuance of a construction permit to Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for the Clinch River Nuclear Unit 1 (CRN-1), a BWRX-300 small modular reactor (SMR) with a nominal electrical output of 300 MWe and thermal power rating of 870 MWt. The safety evaluation report documents the staff's review of the construction permit application, concluding that applicable standards and requirements of the Atomic Energy Act and Commission regulations have been met, and that TVA is financially and technically qualified to engage in construction. The permit is for construction at the Clinch River Nuclear Site in Oak Ridge, Roane County, Tennessee.
