Description
The New York State Department of State is seeking applications for its Smart Growth Community Planning Program, funded by the Environmental Protection Fund. This program aims to support eligible towns, villages, cities, counties, regional planning entities, and not-for-profit organizations in advancing community planning initiatives. Eligible activities include the preparation and adoption of new or updated comprehensive plans, community-wide zoning regulations, area plans, and amendments to existing zoning regulations. These initiatives must integrate the Department of State's Smart Growth Principles and the Child Care Friendly Zoning Initiative. The program emphasizes climate resilience, housing availability, accessible communities, and waterfront development. Approximately $4,800,000 is available for this grant opportunity, with a minimum request of $75,000 and no maximum request. State assistance generally covers up to 75% of eligible project costs, with an increased rate of up to 85% for projects meeting specific criteria related to environmental justice, disadvantaged communities, housing burden, or child care deserts.
