Description
Mississippi State University proposes a sole-source purchase of a Keyence VHX 7100 digital microscope with a fully integrated head, motorized-z free-angle system, high-resolution lens, polarizing and differential interference contrast light packages, and 3D profile software. The system is needed for archaeological microwear analysis of ancient stone and bone artifacts, including high-magnification confocal image capture, 2D and 3D microscopy, 3D profiling, and free-angle imaging of artifact surfaces for publication-quality figures. The estimated cost is $85,208.81. Keyence is identified as the only source offering the required combination of 2D and 3D microscopy capabilities with a free-angle system. This is a proposed sole-source purchase; objections must explain why another source can provide the required commodity and include supporting documentation if applicable.
