The Department of Defense, through the Defense Health Agency, is soliciting applications for the Fiscal Year 2026 Rare Cancers Research Program (RCRP) Concept Award (CA). This program aims to support highly innovative, untested, and potentially groundbreaking novel concepts in the field of rare cancers. Preliminary data is not required for applications. The total estimated program funding is $2,520,000, with an expectation to fund approximately 18 awards, each with a maximum cost cap of $140,000 and a period of performance of up to 2 years. Applications must clearly describe how the proposed research is innovative and presents a novel course of investigation. The RCRP defines rare cancers as those affecting six or fewer persons per 100,000 per year in the United States. Focus areas include the biology of rare cancers, development of preclinical research models, novel therapeutic strategies, and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) models. Research must be relevant to active-duty Service Members, Veterans, military beneficiaries, and the American public. Blinded review processes are in place, prohibiting any identifying information about the Principal Investigator (PI), collaborators, or their organizations within the proposal documents.
