Description
The Texas Tech University System is soliciting qualifications from professional visual artists to commission a site-specific exterior bronze sculpture. The sculpture will be placed in a highly visible location near the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering on the Texas Tech University campus in Lubbock, Texas. The project aims to enhance the campus environment and celebrate the legacy of Edward E. Whitacre Jr., a significant figure in American business and industry. The selected artist will be responsible for the full scope of the project, including design, fabrication, transportation, and installation, within a budget of $350,000. The sculpture should be durable, low-maintenance, and designed to withstand West Texas weather conditions. Ideally, it will be a seated, life-size, honorary bronze statue of Mr. Edward E. Whitacre Jr., accompanied by a seating area or bench to encourage interaction and reflection. Artists are encouraged to consider the institution's mission and Mr. Whitacre's impact on the College of Engineering. Concepts that are polemic or political should be avoided.
