Description
The National Institute of Food and Agriculture is soliciting FY 2026 pre-applications for integrated research and extension projects addressing Huanglongbing (HLB), citrus greening, the Asian citrus psyllid, and related citrus disease challenges. Projects must develop practical, financially sustainable solutions that can be deployed by growers and may address resistant citrus varieties, psyllid management or eradication, HLB and psyllid detection and surveillance, treatments for infected trees, engineered delivery systems, screening and intervention targets, culturing of CLas bacteria, or improved understanding of the HLB/vector/citrus pathosystem and production-system ecology. Eligible applicants include federal agencies, national laboratories, colleges and universities, research institutions, private organizations or corporations, State Agricultural Experiment Stations, the Cooperative Extension Service, individuals, and qualifying groups or consortia. Only research and extension activities are eligible; technical assistance, classified research, and financial assistance for starting or expanding a company are excluded. The opportunity supports Standard Projects of up to three years and Coordinated Agricultural Projects of up to five years. Pre-applications require a project summary, stakeholder relevancy statement, estimated funding request, project objectives and methodology, stakeholder-engagement information, and project-team experience. Matching contributions are required on a dollar-for-dollar basis unless NIFA grants an applicable waiver.
