Description
The U.S. Navy is seeking an improved fire-resistant joiner bulkhead for naval vessels to contain compartment-level fires and improve crew and equipment safety. The solution must address weight, width, cost, fit, and shipyard modification constraints without significantly increasing the weight or dimensions of existing bulkhead panels or installation costs. The bulkhead must meet or exceed AN-30 shock and fire performance requirements under MIL-STD-3020 and pass Navy Fire, Smoke, and Toxicity testing under MIL-STD-1623. The Navy is interested in technologies including intumescent coatings, nanomaterial-enhanced thermal-regulation coatings, advanced high-performance fibers, bio-composites, and bio-polymers; no current commercial solution is available.
