Description
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking Statements of Interest from eligible members of the Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Units in specified regions for a cooperative research project concerning juvenile sportfish and habitat suitability in Florida Bay. The work will continue a long-term monitoring program and evaluate juvenile sportfish abundance, diversity, distribution, and habitat use in relation to submerged aquatic vegetation and hydrologic conditions associated with the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan. Mandatory work includes project planning, monthly field sampling at a minimum of 81 locations from May through November, submerged aquatic vegetation and water-condition monitoring, statistical analysis, quarterly and annual reporting, participation in RECOVER meetings, and a final report. Optional tasks may include monitoring-plan review, data synthesis, System Status Report support, spotted seatrout abundance indices, habitat-suitability modeling, and expanded sampling. Responses are limited to a two-page Statement of Interest; a full proposal and budget are not requested at this stage. Eligible applicants must be members of the Gulf Coast, Piedmont-South Atlantic Coast, or South Florida-Caribbean Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Units, and the principal investigator is expected to hold a relevant PhD and have directly relevant fish, vegetation, field-sampling, and ecological-analysis experience.
