Description
The contractor will provide all labor, equipment, supervision, and services to selectively thin trees across a 35-acre area of the Sally Bull Hollow Unit at Ozark Plateau National Wildlife Refuge. The work is intended to restore a more open upland woodland, with target residual spacing of 15 by 15 feet for sapling- and pole-sized trees and 20 by 20 feet for trees at least 5 inches in diameter. Retain desirable mast-producing trees where possible and target eastern red cedar for removal. Cut vegetation is to remain on the ground, and the contractor must minimize damage to desirable trees and ground disturbance. The work includes safety measures such as high-visibility hunter-orange personal protective equipment and warning signs along active access points and work boundaries. The contractor must submit daily work logs documenting completed work and weather and ground conditions. The quote is evaluated on technical approach, technical experience, past performance, and price; it must include a firm-fixed price per acre and a total price for the 35-acre project. Work is to occur during the winter work window specified in the statement of work, and the project must be completed within three months of the Notice to Proceed, weather permitting. A site visit is highly recommended and must be scheduled in advance with refuge staff.
