Description
This contract aims to establish active surveillance for severe influenza-associated encephalopathy (IAE) in critically ill hospitalized children. The contractor will perform surveillance using standardized case definitions, collect clinical information to assess risk factors and disease course, and track vaccination status and hospital course. Optional goals include evaluating neuroradiologic reports, testing clinical specimens for influenza subtypes and other pathogens, assessing genetic and immunologic risk factors, evaluating neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive outcomes, and conducting surveillance for other severe complications of influenza and viral respiratory diseases. The performance period includes a base year from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027, with four one-year option periods through July 31, 2031. The work will be performed offsite at the contractor's facility and associated healthcare or research facilities.
