Los Alamos National Laboratory has developed a True Silicone DLP Printing Platform that allows for the production of genuine silicone parts, gaskets, lattices, prosthetic components, and microfluidic devices using off-the-shelf desktop DLP printers. The technology uses a printable resin combining an acrylic scaffold and a curable siloxane component. After printing, the acrylic scaffold is dissolved away, leaving a pure silicone object with a silicon-oxygen backbone. The platform offers advantages such as compatibility with low-cost printers, high throughput, tunable mechanical properties and porosity, and freedom from metal catalyst residues. Potential applications include medical prosthetics, soft robotics, microfluidics, aerospace cushioning, and consumer goods. The technology is protected by U.S. Patent No. 11,939,415 and is available for licensing.
