Description
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is soliciting research proposals in two areas: safety challenges associated with deep mining of critical minerals and metals, and airborne pollutant exposure risks in metal and nonmetal mines. Proposed work may include research, exploratory development, testing, or evaluation of practical technologies and approaches; basic or theoretical research will not be considered. Areas of interest include ground-control monitoring, hazard prediction, sensing and mapping, respirable dust and crystalline silica exposure measurement, exposure-reduction controls, worker training, and practical technology demonstrations or transfer. The solicitation anticipates two awards, one for each topic area, with a total estimated funding of $8 million. Individual awards are expected to be up to $1 million per year and $4 million total. Each proposed effort must cover a 12-month base period and three 12-month option periods. Proposals require separate technical, pricing, and administrative volumes; the technical proposal is limited to 20 pages. A pricing narrative and the provided pricing spreadsheet are required, along with applicable supporting materials such as key personnel resumes and relevant quotations or collaboration letters.
