Description
The Federal Bureau of Prisons requires one optometrist to provide services for the incarcerated inmate population at Federal Correctional Complex Pollock. Duties include patient evaluations and eye examinations, diagnosis of eye conditions, foreign-object removal, tonometry, treatment and follow-up recommendations, prescribing corrective lenses and frames, fitting eyeglasses, adjusting frames and examination equipment, and documenting encounters in the Bureau of Prisons’ electronic medical record. The contractor must provide legible written reports and complete a minimum of 15 and up to 20 scheduled examinations per eight-session day, with performance generally averaging 40 one-hour sessions per week and capped at 40 sessions per week. The optometrist must hold a diploma from an accredited program, have at least one year of optometry experience, maintain a current Louisiana professional license, satisfy credentialing and security requirements, and submit the optometrist’s name, work experience, and proof of qualifications with the quote. The contractor must also provide proof of malpractice and medical indemnification insurance in the amount specified in the contract. Services are performed on site in the correctional facility, including frequent unsupervised contact with inmates, compliance with institutional security and privacy requirements, and attendance at a one-time orientation of approximately four sessions. The notice states one base year and four option years, with up to 1,880 sessions during each performance period.
