Description

DARPA's Defense Sciences Office is soliciting unclassified research concepts for an integrated system comprising a physical Material Accelerator and a physics-informed, multi-scale Scalability Model. The system must subject concrete coupons to coupled mechanical, environmental, and chemical stressors; reproduce real-world degradation mechanisms; and predict long-term structural performance from accelerated testing. The proposed approach must target greater than 100x acceleration in Phase 1 and greater than 1,000x acceleration in Phase 2, with specified predictive and morphological accuracy targets. The work includes historical concrete degradation data contributions using the provided standardized data template, testing of government-defined concrete formulations, development and validation of modeling methods, sensor and data-acquisition systems, safety planning, software, technical reports, demonstrations, and potentially delivery of prototype hardware and technical data packages. The effort consists of a 12-month Phase 1 base focused on a benchtop accelerator and initial model development, followed by a 12-month Phase 2 option focused on a versatile, transportable prototype, expanded testing, and model validation. The combined award value is limited to $2,000,000, not to exceed $1,000,000 per phase. Responses must be submitted as a single unclassified ZIP file through DARPA's Broad Agency Announcement Portal, and the proposal must address the required technical, data-sharing, cost, schedule, cybersecurity, and eligibility requirements.
