NASA's Shared Services Center is seeking capability statements from organizations able to provide high-purity metallic elements for magnetic alloy development. The proposed requirement includes 15 kg of niobium, 5 kg of tantalum, 100 kg of cobalt, and 50 kg of iron. Materials must be supplied in minimum-size rough pieces rather than powders, have purity of at least 99.9%, be clean and homogeneous with specified impurities below 0.05% by mass, and include a certificate of chemical analysis. The notice states that NASA intends to pursue a sole-source contract with American Elements and is requesting capability statements—not quotes—to determine whether the requirement should be competed.
