Description
The University of Calgary is requesting one fully integrated, mobile containerized solar microgrid system designed for deployment in Northern Alberta's extreme cold-weather conditions. The system must use either a platform-mounted unit or an insulated 20- or 40-foot shipping container, with a maximum movable load of approximately 15,000 pounds. The enclosure must securely house the electrical components, battery storage, and control systems in a weatherproof, ventilated environment. The required system includes 10–20 rooftop photovoltaic panels rated at 400–500 watts each, mounting hardware, wiring, combiner boxes, and remote data acquisition and monitoring for research purposes. Battery storage must provide 40 kWh of usable energy and 5 kW of continuous output; proposals must include pricing and technical comparisons for flooded lead-acid, lithium iron phosphate, and other cost-effective alternatives. The system must also include battery management, safety disconnects, an integrated AC/DC control panel, breakers, surge protection, metering, grid or generator charging capability, hybrid operation with automatic transfer switching, and remote monitoring. Optional components include a flatbed mover and transportation from the fabrication site to the University of Calgary.
