Description
The Mississippi State Department of Health is accepting applications from eligible public or nonprofit healthcare organizations and private practices to serve as sponsoring entities or practice sites for the Mississippi State Loan Repayment Program. Approved sites must be located in and provide care within federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas in Mississippi, accept Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children's Health Insurance Program, serve patients regardless of ability to pay, and maintain a sliding fee scale. Eligible sites include federally qualified health centers, rural health clinics, community and mental health facilities, health department clinics, Indian Health Service and tribal facilities, correctional facilities, and qualifying private practices. The program is intended to recruit and retain primary care providers in underserved communities. Participants may receive up to $150,000 toward qualifying educational loans in exchange for at least two years of service. Sponsoring entities must support loan and employment verification, disburse funds to providers, report changes in provider status, maintain required policies and documentation, and track program outcomes. The initial performance period is October 1, 2026, through October 1, 2028, with a required dollar-for-dollar nonfederal match. Applications are evaluated on HPSA designation, nondiscrimination and sliding-fee policies, posted signage, recruitment and retention planning, and submission of a completed IRS Form W-9.
