Description
This STTR topic seeks a complete, integrated spacecraft electric propulsion system that can operate with multiple molecular propellants rather than relying exclusively on noble gases such as xenon, krypton, or argon. The proposed system must support air containing 20–50% oxygen with nitrogen balance, water, water and carbon dioxide mixtures derived from combusted hydrocarbons, and nitrogen-hydrogen mixtures derived from decomposed ammonia or hydrazine. The objective is to maximize shared componentry across propellant types and advance the technology from laboratory demonstration toward fieldable spacecraft use, including sustained ambient-air operation in very Low Earth Orbit and liquid-refueling architectures in higher orbits using in-situ resources.
