Description
Public Works and Government Services Canada, on behalf of the Department of National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces, is seeking innovative, stand-alone wind-powered electric generator systems with a capacity of 25–100 kW. Proposed solutions may address technology readiness levels 1–9 and must include the structural, mechanical, electrical, and control elements needed for operation in remote northern locations. The systems must withstand temperatures down to -60°C, winds up to 120 km/h, and icing without intervention; integrate with existing electrical systems or microgrids; and support coordinated operation with other energy sources under varying generation and load conditions. Designs must be modular for transport by air or ship, with components fitting within specified 20-foot sea-container limits, and allow on-site assembly without heavy-lift equipment. Solutions must also be maintainable by local tradespeople using standard mechanical and electrical tools without proprietary equipment or manufacturer field support. Desired capabilities include compliance with MIL-STD-461G electromagnetic-interference requirements and foundations suitable for permafrost, active-layer variation, and freeze-thaw conditions.
