Description
The contractor will demolish and remove athletic field lighting systems, including wooden poles, fixtures, ballasts, transformers, and related electrical equipment, and dispose of or recycle the materials off-site. Transformer disposal must account for possible polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Work also includes filling pole holes with sand, repairing damage to grounds, clearing, grading, and seeding disturbed areas, and removing residual debris. The contractor must coordinate work timing with Newport News Public Schools and the City, ensure the systems are de-energized before work begins, and coordinate with cellular tower owners if fixtures on non-City towers must be removed. The contractor must protect playing surfaces and restrict public access to unsafe work areas. Quotes are submitted through the City's OpenGov Procurement portal. The City may require performance and labor-and-material payment bonds before award; bidders must state the cost of those bonds in the questionnaire.
