Description
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is reviewing an application from Georgia Power Company for a non-capacity amendment to their license for the North Georgia Project (Project No. 2354-221). The project is located on the Savannah River basin in Rabun, Habersham, and Stephens counties, Georgia, and Oconee County, South Carolina. Georgia Power Company is requesting approval to replace existing flashboards with Obermeyer gates and construct a control room for the equipment and instrumentation needed to operate them at the Yonah Development. This upgrade aims to allow for more effective regulation of reservoir elevations. The proposed spillway upgrades are anticipated to begin in 2027 and take 18 to 24 months. These upgrades will not involve ground disturbance, and staging areas will be on previously disturbed sites. The project will continue to operate under its current license and Water Quality Certification. Comments, motions to intervene, and protests are being accepted until June 29, 2026, at 5:00 pm Eastern Time. Submissions can be made electronically via FERC's eFiling system or eComment system, or by paper copy to the Secretary of the Commission.
