Description
The Colusa County Resource Conservation District is implementing restoration of approximately 3.61 acres of former cultivated orchard land into oak and shrub woodland habitat. The work includes establishing approximately 0.35 acres of native hedgerows and 3.26 acres of native grasses and forbs, with sporadic oak and shrub plantings to support pollinators, monarchs, birds, and riparian and wetland species. The project includes written planning and implementation design, species selection, light earth moving and discing, invasive-weed treatment, mulch and tree-tube installation, a simple drip irrigation system tied to an existing system, and ongoing maintenance for at least 10 years. Maintenance activities include invasive-weed removal, mowing native grasses, pruning, bimonthly site visits, photographic documentation, and recommendations based on Natural Resources Conservation Service Conservation Practice Standards.
