Description
The U.S. Department of Justice's SMART Office is offering grants to eligible state governments and federally recognized tribal government entities to develop, maintain, or enhance programs implementing the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). Funded activities may include improving sex offender registry databases and public websites, collecting and sharing biometric and registration information, enhancing registration verification and absconder investigations, implementing international-travel notification requirements, addressing FBI National Sex Offender Registry audit findings, strengthening interagency collaboration, and training law enforcement and criminal justice personnel. The anticipated award period is 36 months beginning January 1, 2027. The total funding available is $15,000,000, with approximately 50 awards anticipated and individual awards of up to $400,000. Applications require submissions through Grants.gov and JustGrants, including the SF-424, standard applicant information, a proposal abstract, the FY 2026 AWA Proposal Questionnaire, a budget, applicable financial attachments, partner MOUs or letters of intent, and required disclosures and assurances.
