Description
The Sterling Park District in Whiteside County, Illinois, intends to issue general obligation bonds, not to exceed $5,250,000.00, to finance the acquisition of land for parks and boulevards, and to cover costs associated with building, maintaining, improving, and protecting these public spaces. These bonds will be payable from the principal proceeds received from the issuance of general obligation bonds or notes, and also from ad valorem taxes levied against all taxable property within the District. A public hearing regarding this proposal is scheduled for March 16, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the Duis Center, 211 East St. Mary's Road, Sterling, Illinois. The District will also accept petitions signed by at least 850 registered voters within 30 days of the notice publication, requesting the bond issuance be put to a referendum on November 3, 2026. If no such petition is filed, the bonds will be authorized for issuance.
