Description
The California Department of Education (CDE), on behalf of the State Board of Education, is administering the Public Charter Schools Grant Program (PCSGP) with funding from the federal Charter Schools Program (CSP). This program aims to award approximately 26 subgrants for the 2026-27 fiscal year to support the opening of new charter schools, and the replication and expansion of high-quality existing charter schools. The subgrants are intended to assist with the development and initial operations of these schools. There are three types of subgrants available: New School (Planning and Implementation), Replication, and Expansion. Eligibility for the Planning, Implementation, or Replication subgrants requires that the school did not begin serving students prior to July 1, 2024. Established charter schools may be eligible for an Expansion subgrant. Applicants must have an approved charter petition from an authorized public chartering authority by the RFA due date and must provide proof of this approval if the school is not yet serving students. Applicants must also notify their authorizer of their intent to apply for these funds.
