NASA requires the complete teardown, inspection, overhaul, rebuild, and return of two Philadelphia Gear Model 3418CT cooling tower gearboxes serving Cooling Tower Cells 1 and 2. The contractor must disassemble, clean, and inspect the units; perform magnetic particle inspection on reusable torque-transmitting components; install new OEM-specification bearings, gearing, shafting, and seals; evaluate the housings and lubrication components; and conduct a minimum 90-minute, no-load, full-speed mechanical spin test recording temperature, sound, and vibration. The work also includes slate-blue epoxy exterior coating, internal rust prevention providing at least six months of protection, packaging and bolting the gearboxes to heavy-duty shipping skids, and a three-year warranty on the overhauled drives and OEM parts. The requirement is identified as sole source because Timken Gears & Services Inc. is the OEM for the Philadelphia Gear units and possesses the proprietary blueprints, metallurgy specifications, factory tolerances, and dedicated testing capability. The overhaul and return are expected within approximately 24 weeks after receipt of order or equipment. The notice requests capability statements only; quotes will not be evaluated.
