Description
This opportunity concerns the Marten Falls Community Access Road Project, proposed by Marten Falls First Nation. The project involves the construction and operation of an all-season, multi-use community access road approximately 184 kilometers in length, connecting the northern end of Painter Lake forestry road to the community of Marten Falls. The purpose of the project is to improve community well-being through enhanced access to essential goods, services, and economic opportunities, addressing challenges posed by the community's remote location. The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) has conducted an impact assessment of the project, coordinating with the Government of Ontario. This report details the assessment of potential adverse effects on fish and fish habitat, migratory birds, species at risk, the atmospheric environment, Indigenous peoples' current use of lands and resources for traditional purposes, physical and cultural heritage, and health, social, and economic conditions. It also considers the project's contribution to Canada's environmental obligations and climate change commitments, as well as its overall sustainability. Public comments are invited on the draft Impact Assessment Report and potential conditions. Following the comment period, IAAC will finalize the report to support decision-making by the Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature.
