Description
The U.S. Navy is conducting a sources-sought Request for Information regarding Automated Celestial Navigation Systems (ACNS) for surface ships. The contemplated technology would determine vessel position through optical observation of celestial objects, including stars, satellites, and space debris, to provide an alternative position source supporting assured positioning, navigation, and timing when GPS is unavailable or degraded. Respondents are asked to describe proposed system and component characteristics, including position-fix accuracy and frequency, day/twilight/night operation, ephemeris and Earth Orientation Parameter data, supported sensors and interfaces, physical dimensions, weight, environmental military-standard compliance, integration with the Global Positioning System-Based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Service, development and maturation plans, technology and schedule risks, cost drivers, digital engineering capabilities, ability to build from government technical data packages, proprietary technology, Government Purpose Rights, and barriers to future competition. Responses must be unclassified, address the specified technical topics, and be no more than 15 pages excluding the cover page.
