Description
The U.S. Geological Survey seeks a participating partner in the Hawaiʻi-Pacific Islands Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit to conduct research characterizing stable isotope ratios in Culex mosquitoes and egg rafts across Hakalau and Lapahāhoehoe. The work will investigate mosquito movement and potential invasion pathways into Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge, and pilot a study linking native flowering trees, native bird blood, and mosquito tissues to explore avian malaria food-web dynamics. Expected work includes presenting findings at the Hawaiʻi Conservation Conference, publishing a peer-reviewed paper, and compiling and releasing a curated isotope dataset through the USGS Fundamental Science Practices process. The application must include a technical narrative, budget narrative, data management plan, overlap or duplication statement, and required federal application forms and disclosures. One award of up to $49,994 is anticipated for a one-year budget period.
