Description
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District, intends to issue a solicitation for the Lake George East Phase II Dredging project. This project involves the removal of contaminated sediments in the Lake George Canal section of the Indiana Harbor Canal via mechanical dredging, with environmental monitoring and controls to improve sediment and water quality, as well as habitat. The sediment contains elevated concentrations of metals, volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Dredged material will be hydraulically placed into the IHC confined disposal facility adjacent to the LGC. The project may include sediment sampling at the dredged surface to determine if further remediation is required.
