Description
Marine Atlantic Inc. is conducting a negotiated, two-phase Request for Proposals for removal of the Vardys Rock landmass and associated breakwater improvement at Pikes I. in Port aux Basques Harbour. The objective is to improve navigation and vessel maneuvering, create new land for harbour protection, and enhance lobster habitat. The work includes demolition and disposal of miscellaneous structures, debris, and electrical components; relocation and disposal of overburden; removal of earth materials and bedrock to an elevation of -9.5 metres Chart Datum; relocation of material to an adjacent infill area; and reinforcement of the infill area with armourstone. Construction methods include drilling, blasting, dredging, and excavation, with material reused where possible. Construction is expected to take approximately one year, excluding removal of temporary infrastructure, and must be completed by the end of Q1 2028. The first phase will prequalify up to three proponents, followed by a second phase evaluated on organizational structure, similar project experience, construction methodology and regulatory compliance, financial capacity, and pricing. The opportunity is open only to Canadian suppliers or suppliers from applicable trading partners. Proponents must execute and return a confidentiality agreement to obtain the RFP documents and project data site.
