Description
The British Columbia Ministry of Forests is soliciting proposals for operational wildfire risk reduction treatment in the Stouts Gulch area near Barkerville in the Quesnel District. The work covers approximately 12.9 hectares and includes overstory removal and understory thinning to reduce crown bulk density, surface-fire intensity, and overall fire hazard. Approximately 1,200 cubic metres of material, primarily dead potential, is expected to be removed. The contractor will receive two permits: one covering 5.9 hectares overlapping a tree farm licence, where material must be cut, decked, and offered to the tree farm licence holder, and another covering the 7.0-hectare non-overlap area, where the harvested volume will be awarded to the contractor. Equipment must operate on snow-covered ground to protect sensitive soils. Material removal and hazard abatement must be substantially completed by March 15, 2027. The province intends to require a 10% performance security deposit. Proposals must be submitted electronically through BC Bid by the stated closing deadline. The estimated contract period is 12 months.
