Description
The British Columbia Ministry of Forests is soliciting a contractor to perform operational wildfire-risk-reduction treatments at Puntataenkut Lake in the Quesnel District. The work includes removing dead trees except designated wildlife trees, retaining healthy trees and live deciduous trees where safe, pruning live and dead conifer stems over 3 metres, reducing fine, large, and coarse woody debris, limbing and bucking retained coarse woody debris flush to the ground, and disposing of debris. Removed timber must be merchandised, with products including sawlogs from live removals and pulp or biomass from downed dead stems. Chipping and distribution may be used to modify wood material. The project includes treatment units 2 and 5, totaling 15.8 hectares, plus treatment unit 3, totaling 9.3 hectares subject to funding. Treatment unit 2 permits removal of up to approximately 25% of Layer 1 stems with no openings larger than 1 hectare; treatment units 3 and 5 follow a fuel-management prescription with no green Layer 1 removal. The estimated contract period is 12 months.
