The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, intends to contract on a sole-source basis with the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute to conduct long-term nekton monitoring in selected zones of the Lower St. Johns River, including selected tributaries and coves. The work will increase sampling coverage in tidal tributaries and coves and continue existing sampling upstream of Julington Creek. The monitoring will support assessment of how channel deepening and related changes in salinity, water quality, and water flow affect estuarine-dependent and freshwater-resident fish and other nekton, including their abundance, habitat use, spawning, and recruitment. The notice states that no solicitation will be posted and identifies the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission as the only responsible source.
